The game is afoot! Just as I finished my first confessional last night and was about to make my goodbyes with Kurtis, I was added to a Skype group chat with Jacob, Kurtis, and Skylar. I suspect that's the pecking order within it too if you tack me onto the end. I like them all well enough, and as a group we get along fine, but let's just say I'm going to be exploring other options. There was no strategy talk at all, and on the first night I'm completely okay with that. Considering we're on tribes of six, just getting a group of four together to bond is good enough for me for now. Unfortunately the name of the group was changed to the Hottboiis Alliance at one point, so I excused myself for a moment to throw up. I don't think anyone noticed.
I managed to have two separate conversations about milk last night, and (don't quote me on this) I don't believe I started either. That's an ORG first for me. Whatever part I'm playing in leading talk there, I hope I'm making Ohio proud.
Near the end of the night after I said goodbye to the group, Kurtis complained to me that Jacob was pushing him to talk to Sassy. It sounded like they were getting on call.* Kurtis didn't seemed thrilled about it, and he mentioned that Jacob seems to know everyone. I've got my eye on both of them. I don't think it would hurt if Skylar and I got a little closer to Zavi.
*Is cross-tribal communication allowed in this game? It seems weird to me that people came into the game with pre-existing relationships, they're currently talking to those people, yet I'm only given the contact info for members of my own tribe.

Hey John, Cross tribe communication is fine but in a perfect world we'd rather you guys didn't, however we know that some people play in multiple games at one time and tend to cross paths more often with the same people so it's almost impossible to restrict it. It's a double edged sword.

It's a double edged sword. That works for me. It may end up to my disadvantage that I'm not connecting with the new faces right now if they're strengthening their own pre-existing relationships, but I'm quite comfortable staying quiet over here on Serpiente. I think my strategy at the moment is to play a bit more UTR than I usually do, and just appear flexible, cooperative, and trustworthy to the lot. I'm not confident in my ability to secure the hidden immunity idol - unless viewers want to toss some points my way (HINT, HINT ) - given that some people seem to know one another better than I do, so avoiding being a target in the situations where it would be used would be nice.

I'm so happy for Skylar for sorting out all of the pairings! I gave up on the idea of ever doing it simply because the task as it was designed is a guessing game. I don't know how he did it. What's interesting is that Skylar and Cody are the pair from another series, and I played in the very same game they played in together. I'm assuming this kind of example is not unique to me, so even if I had identified pre-existing relationships in the game, who's to say that relationships I found would be the same as the ones the hosts found? He got really lucky, I guess. I have only spoken to him, Kurtis, Jacob, and Zavi so far. I hope I'm not behind already.

Things are looking grim for Serpiente in this challenge. I still have not spoken to members of any other tribe, so I don't know if they're quite handicapped in the way that we are right now, but it seems that only the members of my (I refuse to use that name) alliance are active. Tina remains to be completely unheard from. Zavi's six hours ahead of eastern time over in Slovakia. He's at least been around (calling for whale genocide...what?) but I only catch him for maybe an hour each day. If we were to attempt the challenge without Tina or Zavi, I think we'd be looking at about 40 hours of penalties. If we do it with Zavi but without Tina, I think it's closer to 16. That's the plan right now. We'll wait until about 3 or 4 this afternoon to see if we can catch Zavi, and then try to knock it out really fast. Both Jacob and Skylar were vocal about not wanting to attempt the challenge. I pushed for us to at least give it a go. I just don't want to put out an impression that we're not trying. I think we all agree that Tina would be the easy boot at this point should we lose. Still, Kurtis threw me for a loop last night when he said he sees it that way too, lest Jacob or Skylar try to pull something funny. I don't think a move like that makes any sense right now, and I believe Skylar would ask me about it if it were something he were considering. Jacob loves to call himself shady, but I don't even suspect him of plotting something without Kurtis and me and the moment. Maybe I need to trust Kurtis a little bit more, but I can't help but wonder if that's just his way of making it look like he's not very close with Jacob.
Since it was announced that the vote control had been won, I've learned that TQ is Kurtis' partner (they're old school ORGers) and Joe is Jacob's partner (they're from Tengaged.) Jacob also told me that Sassy is from Tengaged, and that Sassy and Jermin are the frenemies (who aren't really friends?) He also said that Jermin is one who makes big moves for the sake of making them. I'm reserving judgment, but played up the fact that this is my first time venturing out of the Chronicles community to keep him feeding me info. I know that Cody is also from Tengaged, but Jacob doesn't seem to have a very high opinion of him. Jacob shared a video from a BB game he's hosting, and I recognized both Sassy and Joe in that video. As I'm seeing Jacob connected to these people in more than one place, I'm beginning to think of him as a flight risk in a shuffle situation. Kurtis said he would be willing to work with TQ down the road if that was something TQ was interested in, but that prospect sounds a bit less threatening than Jacob's options. Kurtis tried to make it sound like Skylar is really connected in the game as well, but that's news to me. I'll keep an eye on it, but try not to worry about it too much. I don't feel super attached to anyone just yet, and I'm okay with that for the moment.

And can we just talk for a second about how many people can't seem to figure out how to post on the forum? At least Tina and Slayer have mistaken the shoutbox for some sort of private, secure communication, and the whole rest of my tribe repeated their contact info on the same sub-forum as where it already was. I'm watching that shoutbox like a hawk for when someone inevitably says something actually useful or damaging.

A quick addendum to last episode's confessionals now that I'm back from Chicago. It appears monstrously long because of the quoted conversations. I wish I knew how to hide them with a "spoilery" thingy here on Proboards, but I've at least indented them if you would like to skim past. The Serpiente tribe felt that Thursday evening would be the best chance of having at least five of us attempt the challenge. Jacob never showed though, and Kurtis had to leave for a few hours (and I'm not sure that we knew that until Thursday afternoon,) so the four of us agreed to wait until Kurtis would get back in the hopes that Jacob would be available then. This unfortunately meant that Zavi would have to wake up at 4 a.m. his time to participate. Zavi's a real trooper, and he agreed to it. I'm really starting to like him. Then Jacob showed up to announce he was bailing on the challenge. Zavi managed to wake up without issue, but Jacob still wasn't around. I guess he decided to stay at the birthday party. The four of us were going to forge ahead, but Skylar continued to hold things up. Basically, Skylar completely bailed on us. We had Zavi wake up at 4:30 in the morning to compete with us, and without a word Skylar signs off. He never ended up posting for the challenge, and he never made any excuses or apologies later. I still haven’t heard from him since that night. What a crappy way to treat sweet Zavi. Kurtis and I once again had a side discussion about it. We did our best with it, and tried to have fun. When we reached the digging leg of the course and could no longer post for people, we tried to set it up as best as possible for them. I left instructions in the group chat on Skype directing Skylar or Jacob, whoever showed up, what they needed to post to continue on. No one ended up picking it up. In the end, I'm really thankful that we went for it anyway against Jacob and Skylar's wishes/intentions, because our pathetic progress into the course was still enough to eke out an immunity. I got really pissed later though when Jacob shared some messages with me that Skylar had sent to Zavi earlier in the evening while were making the plans to continue at 10:30 EDT. I can't believe he'd make that decision on his own. If he was so determined not to compete, he should've let the rest of us know so that we didn't stay up later than we had to. It also bothers me that he says "we decided" which implies to Zavi that there's an alliance he's not a part of. This tribe that I'm on is a mess.
