Well... 5 years later and I've still got it. I was afraid that getting back into the swing of these games would be difficult but I feel like I'm fairly well situated among a group of idiots even more transparent than the folks I used to play with.
Let's start with TQ. He's my partner in crime here. We must be in the double digits of games played together, but neither of us has done one of these in years (5 to be exact... I was nearly completely readjusted to real life...sigh). We thought we would be oh-so-sneaky and delete each other from facebook so that no one would know we were a pair... yeah that lasted nearly as long as a tic-tac. I tried to play it off to my team that I was new to games but Jacob goes "Oh by the way I know you're paired with TQ" 5 minutes into my conversation with him--so much for that plan.
Instead I just was straight up with him, but it ended up behooving me. It resulted in me knowing that he and Joe, Skylar and Cody, and Sassy and Jermin are all paired up. Turns out Jacob knows everyone and has zero ability to keep his mouth closed on anything. Fairly annoying but I know his type well--suck up and chat with him constantly. Let him flirt with you and wash genitals often. Always wins their trust and almost always keeps me STD free.
It seems I have a loose agreement with Jacob, Skylar (who is like 12), and John. I probably enjoy John the most at the moment, but I'm sure he is the best player of the bunch, so I wouldn't mind offing him sooner before later. Yet to hear from Tina on my team, which is just fabulous. It's hard to put a price tag on an inactive this early in the game--stressing out about the first vote is never attractive.
The most eccentric of the team goes to the Slovak hands down. Mikal, Andrew, Zavi or whatever the hell is name is was fun to talk to, although I nearly passed out from emoticon asphyxiation. It's always hard to deal with foreigners in these things, everyone wants to use them as a fool so they end up going too far and messing up the whole system. His time zone situation doesn't allow him to talk during peak pathetically-strategize-for-an-online-game time, so he was automatically excluded from the core group.
Basically I'm feeling relieved at this point. Relieved that these people are just like the others who played 5 years ago (shouldn't someone start a "where are they now?" column?), just different faces and spelling errors. The plan is simple: flirt, play dumb, mock others behind their backs, stay loyal to TQ, and come up with witty commentary to add to group conversation. Now if that isn't a recipe for success, what is?
